INTRODUCTION
TheCreative industries are to be harnessed in Africa to boost the wealth creation, through direct and indirect job creation, IP and copyright. It is thereforecrucial for African stakeholders to have access and share existing experienceand success stories from African countries in order to build effective andefficient strategies, policies and programmes to achieve the expected outcomes.
InternationalMeetings and conferences on creative industries are usually held in Europeanand Asian and North American countries, but not many Africans stakeholders andinstitutions are really aware of these meetings, new concepts and theirimplications on their work. Not many Africans can attend these internationalevents and colloquiums for various reasons which include the high participationfees, administrative issues and lack of information.
Agoralumierehas been a main player in the development process of the Creative AfricaInitiative in partnership with UNCTAD and under the leadership of the AfricaUnion and has attended and contributed to many of these conferences andmeetings either as speaker, concept designer, co-organizer, task team member orparticipant.
Inthis capacity based on its input and in line with its mission to ensure Africanownership of these concepts, Agoralumiere took the leadership to design andpromote ‘’the Annual Forum on theCreative Industries, Creative Clusters and Creative Economy in Africa’’ asone of its Creative Africa core programmes which started during UNCTAD XII inAccra in April 2008. This is our way toprovide African stakeholders with tools and knowledge to fully benefit from theopportunities of the new trends in the creative sector.
