The Panafrican Cultural Festival of Algiers is taking place now after 40 Years.

The Festival is showcasing different arts, from theatre to cinema, from literature, to comics, from music to visual art.

Background 

"This cultural event is part of a strategic vision which aims to reclaim the constituent elements of our rich and diverse national culture. It comes in the wake of two events of regional dimensions : "2003, the Year of Algeria in France" focused on the Mediterranean dimension of our culture, and 

"Algiers, the Capital of Arab Culture 2007" highlighting one  of the essential foundations of our national identity.  

The Pan African Festival is meant to be a chance to assert our historical and civilizational relationship with the African Continent. It is also an opportunity to say and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the values of Pan-Africanism shared by Algeria and heavily supported by His Excellency Abdelaziz Bouteflika as part of NEPAD, and the different international authorities.  

It is a very important event given the number of countries that will take part since not less than 48 countries are theoretically involved. In consideration of this number, it is necessary to plan a particular organization that would take into account several key parameters : financial, or ganizational and human...  

Given the contexts in which the two editions take place, the experience of 1969 may not constitute a total reference. One should be creative, both with regard to the very approach of the event, and altogether in terms of organization and conduct of activities. " quoted from the official presentation document.
